The Heroes in Romania & Ukraine

One of the things that war does is bring out the worst… and bring out the best.

When 501 Collective was at the Ukraine border in April, there were tents lining up on both sides which represented nearly every country, faith, and people.  You could find a meal, a cot, a tea, pet care, health care, supplies.  The world had come together to serve a people fleeing their homes.

And on each side of the border, you would find more and more incredible people sacrificing their own comforts for the sake of others they had never met and may not meet again, save for a day of helping them get to their next space. 

As one of our 501 Collective team members, Melanie Dobson, put it:

The heroes: In the midst of the tragedy, we met some of the most incredible modern day heroes. … only a God-of-miracles, I think, could bring together a former drug dealer, American Mennonites, nurses, medics, ex-convicts, police officers, soldiers, an MMA wrestler, Ukrainian caregivers, an electrical engineer, printer, computer techs, students, landscapers, construction workers, and dozens donating coats, shoes, and food. All of them working in rhythm, risking their lives at times, to care for others.
